Snowdown Male Voice Choir was founded by a group of miners of mainly Welsh origin. The colliery (in Kent, South-East England) closed in the 1980s, but the choir continues to flourish. In fact, under conductor Michael Lewis, a musician to his fingertips, numbers increased to 50 or more choristers, from many parts of East Kent, with practices on Monday evenings at 19.30, in the Aylesham & Snowdown Social & Welfare Centre.

Over the years the Choir has sung in many countries, e. g. France, Belgium, and Holland. They sang with the 10,000 voices of the World Choir in Cardiff Arms Park rugby stadium in 1992 and 1993, and were one of the participating choirs in the London Welsh Festival of Male Choirs in 1996 in the Royal Albert Hall, London. For many years they participated in the South Wales Miners Eisteddfod and have won many trophies; in 1999, they came second in their group, and were congratulated by the adjudicator on their Welsh when they sang one of the famous Welsh hymns Y-Fory.

One venture abroad was to Tourcoing in Northern France in 1998 where they took part in an international festival of male voice choirs, and acquired some new friends from other countries.
